The CCFP Exam, administered by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), is a two-part exam required for practicing family medicine in Canada.

CCFP Exam: Who Can Take It?

The CCFP exam is open to the following candidates:

Residents

  • Be a CFPC-accredited family medicine residency program graduate and have completed at least 24 months of training.
  • Be a successful graduate of a postgraduate family medicine training program in a jurisdiction where the standards for accreditation are judged comparable and acceptable to the CFPC.

Graduates of Accredited Medical Schools

If you’re a practicing physician and a graduate of a medical school accredited by LCME, CACMS or AOA, here’s what you need to qualify for the exam:
  1. License: You need a valid license to practice family medicine independently.
  2. CFPC Membership: You should be an active member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
  3. Postgraduate Training: You should have completed at least a year of relevant postgraduate medical training.
  4. Experience: You need at least five years of full-time active family practice under your belt before you can apply.
  5. Recent Practice: You should have been in continuous full-time active family practice for at least two years just before you apply.
  6. Continuous Practice: You need to continue practicing full-time and maintain your license until you sit the exam.

And there’s some additional paperwork:

  • References from two colleagues.
  • Completion of a pre-certification program within two years before the exam.
  • Verification of registration or licensure for each medical regulatory authority where they hold a certificate of registration or license authorizing independent practice.

Graduates of Non-accredited Medical Schools Practicing in Canada

If you’re a practicing physician, a graduate of a non-accredited medical school, and currently practicing in Canada, here’s what you need:
  1. License: You need a valid license to practice family medicine independently in Canada.
  2. CFPC Membership: You should be an active member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
  3. Postgraduate Training: You should have completed at least a year of relevant postgraduate training.
  4. Experience: You need at least five years of full-time active family practice under your belt before you can apply.
  5. Recent Practice: You should have been in continuous full-time active family practice in Canada for at least two years just before you apply.
  6. Continuous Practice: You need to continue practicing full-time in Canada and maintain your license until you sit the exam.

Additional requirements for Category B candidates:

  • Verification of all credentials obtained outside of Canada by the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) at least 8 weeks prior to the exam.
  • References from two colleagues.
  • Completion of a pre-certification program within two years before the exam.
  • Verification of registration or licensure for each medical regulatory authority where you’re authorized to practice independently in Canada.

One:
Apart from demographic details, what crucial initial pieces of information do you need to obtain from the woman during the phone call? Provide a list of FIVE.
Two:
You promptly have the patient transported to the hospital for a thorough assessment. While waiting for him to arrive, you contemplate a strategy to minimize poison absorption. Name ONE technique for reducing poison absorption.
Three:
Consider boosting the elimination of the poison. What are two techniques for enhancing poison excretion?

What To Expect During The CCFP SAMP Exam

Your SAMPs exam will be taken at a Prometric Test Center. Here’s what to expect upon arrival:

Step 1: Greeting by a Test Center Administrator (TCA)

Upon entering the test center, a friendly TCA will greet you.

Step 2: ID Verification and Logbook Signing

Present a valid government-issued ID, such as a driver's license or passport, to the TCA. You'll also be asked to sign a logbook.

Step 3: Locker Assignment and Belonging Storage

The TCA will assign you a locker and provide a locker key. All personal belongings must be secured in this temporary locker during your time at the test center. You may keep your ID and locker key with you at all times.

 Step 4: Pocket Inspection and Metal Detector Scan

To ensure all personal belongings are removed, the TCA will ask you to turn your pockets completely inside out. A final security measure involves scanning you with a metal detector wand before entering the test room.

Step 5: Explanation of Rules and Regulations

At this point, the TCA will explain all standard Prometric test center rules and regulations, as well as any specific rules for your test.

Step 6: Test Materials Provision

The TCA may provide necessary test materials, such as scrap paper, a pencil, or a dry-erase board and pen.

Step 7: Seeking Assistance During Testing

If you have questions during the test, simply raise your hand, and a TCA will come to assist you.

Frequently Asked Questions About The CCFP SAMP Exam 

All candidates for certification in family medicine in Canada are required to take the CCFP SAMP Exam.
The CCFP SAMP Exam is four-and-a-half hours long.
You can register for the CCFP SAMP Exam online through the CFPC website.
No, partial marks are not given on the exam. If a question asks for more than one written answer, you will only receive marks for each correct answer you write down. For instance, if a question requires four answers and you only provide two correct ones, you will only receive a score of 2/4.
Your CCFP SAMP Exam results will be released approximately 8 weeks after you take the exam.
You will receive your CCFP SAMP Exam results by email.
